Commendations

Denise Dunlap, Sophia Kauma
Lansing

Last week I had dropped a dime under my desk.   I forgot to pick it up.   I would have to crawl way under the desk to get to it, so I left it.  I kept telling myself you have got to pick it up.   When I came in this morning, my floor was vacuumed and my dime was on my desk.

Thanks Cleaning People!

Annette Stevens
Dow Research

I would like to commend Annette who is currently assigned to 1707 Building at Dow Chemical in Midland.  Since she took over in 1707, everyone’s trash gets emptied every day, offices are vacuumed at least twice a week, and the bathrooms are spotless.

Annette’s attention to detail is much appreciated by all the residents here.

Marilyn Bronsink

Dow Chemical

Marilyn Bronsink works in my building in Dow Michigan Division.   One day after work I had noticed that my ring was missing.   I really had no idea how I could have lost it.   The next day I asked Marilyn to keep her eye out for it.   She suggested we look in the paper towel trash from the bathroom.   She had just picked up that bag of trash from the previous day.

We starting looking through it, and to our complete amazement, it was there!   It must have come off when I washed my hands.

I never thought I would see it again.   I am so thankful it was found, and I really appreciate Marilyn’s efforts!

This is just an example of how extra caring the staff is here.

Kathy Brown
Dow Chemical

Kathy has been our complex for four years.   She is the first to notify any problems in the area.   She either contacts one of the Activity Coordinators in the area or myself to have items fixed or replaced.

She is keeping everyone in my complex safe.

Cleaning our department is no small feat; especially when she maintains cleanliness and supplies for approximately 110 individuals.  She maintains the supplies for our department and receives minor complaints when we are missing something.

Kathy knows and leverages what we use in several other building as well as the warehouse.

It is with Kathy’s continued loyalty and devotion to her areas that makes her stand above the rest.  We feel Kathy is top notch.

Safety Article

Wintertime brings exposures other than driving to your job; exposures that can spell trouble for you if you are not mentally prepared and ready to react in a safe manner.

It doesn’t matter what type of vehicle you operate, entering or exiting the vehicle is more hazardous when walking surfaces are slippery.   Look before you step!  Make sure you place your foot where there is adequate traction to support your weight.  When on sloping terrain be especially careful.   Hold onto the vehicle as you transfer your weight from standing to sitting.   When entering and exiting tasks require standing or climbing on metallic steps or vehicle components, be careful as they may freeze up and not look slippery.   DON’T jump from a vehicle or loading dock.

Whether you are carry material or just walking, smaller steps lessen the likelihood of slips and trips.   When using exterior stairways, hold onto handrails so you can catch yourself if a foot does slip.   If you identify hazardous conditions that can be made safer, report them to minimize the possibility of someone else falling.

You can lessen your likelihood of slips and falls by wearing appropriate footwear.   We all know that smooth leather soles are slippery and rubberized footwear provides more  traction.   Gloves allow you to grab onto metal railings without fear of your wet skin “freezing fast.”   Personal protective clothing really works, but only if available and used.   While most of us don’t expect to have our vehicle breakdown, it certainly is smart to carry warm clothing in case it does.   If you don’t take care of yourself, it is unlikely that anyone else will.   If you are thinking about making a New Year’s resolution for the upcoming think about “Be Good to Yourself”  it is not too late to do it now.   You really are important and deserving of consideration.
