Commendations

Mary Davidson and the Romanow Crew
Health Source

Thank you for the extra effort put forth to prepare for the Groundbreaking ceremony on October 21, 2005.

The cleanliness of the entry area and the restrooms were impeccable.

Thank you for assisting us in celebrating the beginning of tomorrow's Health Source.

                                                                                                                                                                           Lester Heybour

Kenneth Zill
Dow Research

Kenneth does a great job taking care of our cleaning needs.  Beyond doing a great job cleaning he does the little extra things that matter.  For example, I arrive at work at 7:00 a.m. and he is finished cleaning the kitchen.  He goes the extra mile for the customer.

He is friendly courteous and just a great person.  I have been here for many years, and I have seen many of your staff and Ken is definitely one of the best.

Safety Article

Wintertime brings exposures other than driving to your job; exposures that can spell trouble for you if you are not mentally prepared and ready to react in a safe manner.  Driving employees are often involved in both motor vehicle accidents and wintertime slip and fall occurrences.  While a lot of attention is given to preventing vehicular accidents that occur due to poor driving conditions, we frequently overlook POOR WALKING conditions.

It doesn't matter what type of vehicle you operate, entering or exiting the vehicle is more hazardous when walking surfaces slippery.  Look before you step!  Make sure you place your foot where there is adequate traction to support your weight.  When on sloping terrain be especially careful.  Hold onto the vehicle as you transfer your weight from standing to sitting.  When entering and exiting tasks require standing or climbing on metallic steps or vehicle components, be careful as they may freeze up and not look slippery.  DON'T jump from a vehicle or loading dock.

Whether you are carrying material or just walking, smaller steps lessen the likelihood of slips and trips.  When using exterior stairways, hold onto handrails so you can catch yourself if a foot does slip.  If you identify hazardous conditions that can be made safer, report then to minimize the possibility of someone else falling.

You can lessen your likelihood of slips and falls by wearing appropriate footwear.  We all know that smooth leather soles are slippery and rubberized footwear provides more traction.  Gloves allow you to grab onto metal railings without fear of your wet skin freezing fast.  Personal protective clothing really works but only if available and used.  While most of us don't expect our vehicle to breakdown, it certainly is smart to carry warm clothing in case it does.  If you don't take care of yourself, it is unlikely that anyone else will.  It is that time of year when we start thinking of a New Year's resolution and now would be a good time for you to make your resolution to 'Be Good to Yourself'.  You really are important and deserving of consideration.

                                                               Be Smart!  Be Safe!

We had a great response from the Safety Slogan contest once again.  I want to thank everyone for participating.

The ballots will be in your payroll checks December 17th.  Take time to make your selection and give it to your supervisor.  Check the January's Associate Newsletter for our new 2006 slogan.
